Iris

Labrador Retriever · Female · Senior · 13 years

My story: Here is Iris, a 13-year-old labrador cross beauceron. She arrived at the shelter after being taken in by the pound in a state of great emaciation. Despite this difficult past, Iris remained an extremely gentle, calm, and tender dog. Her personality: Very affectionate, she particularly enjoys cuddling moments and willingly seeks attention from her humans. Social, she gets along very well with other dogs of the same species and currently lives in a collective pen. She is also compatible with cats. A family with children could suit her, provided they are old enough to respect her need for peace and her rest times. Likes/dislikes: Iris is a true connoisseur of comfort: she loves napping well settled in a soft basket. Greedy, she never misses an opportunity to savor a small treat. Due to her age, Iris suffers from arthritis. She therefore seeks a family ready to offer her a peaceful life, with walks adapted to her pace and her abilities. Today, Iris simply dreams of a warm home where she can peacefully enjoy her retirement years, surrounded by love and kindness.

About Iris

What life with Iris looks like

Iris is a senior labrador retriever dog waiting at APAA Trégrom in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iris, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iris?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. APAA Trégrom handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iris on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iris if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — APAA Trégrom will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iris already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iris isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with APAA Trégrom early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iris and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
