adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Irma can stay forever in your foster home! Her story: 58285 Gevelsberg. We met Irma in early 2018 at the public animal shelter in Baia Mare, Romania, and fell in love immediately with the lively, sweet female dog with the wiry fur. Our local animal protection colleagues told us that she was found with serious injuries, likely hit by a car, and had to undergo emergency surgery. Since then, she has hobbled and has not been able to use her right hind leg properly. In July 2019, Irma was rehomed to a friend's organization in Germany. Unfortunately, she could not stay there due to personal reasons and was placed in her current foster home. In Germany, she underwent another operation on her hind leg. Because, what no one realized, the plate used in Romania not only needed to be removed but was also broken and caused her a lot of pain. Now, the wound has fully healed, and Irma is ready for a second attempt to find her forever family. Irma can only be rehomed to dog-experienced hands without small children. Irma needs sensitive, loving, and consistent people who have the desire and time to work and train with her. The approximately 6-year-old female dog is not a straggler in a family, as her life on the streets and the months of pain have left deep wounds in Irma's soul. So, we are looking for very special people. Irma gets along well with the dogs in her foster home and in the dog training classes. However, smaller, insecure dogs sometimes bully her, so we would prefer a single placement for her. We could also imagine having a dominant male dog as the only dog. Generally, she loves other dogs and currently lives with five others. Irma does not like passing lorries or buses, whether they drive past her or are next to her in the car. We suspect that she might have been hit by a lorry. She barks at them. Irma can also be alone for a few hours but is rarely alone in her foster home, so she is not regularly accustomed to it. Irma is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and treated for fleas. We are looking for someone who falls in love with our pretty and very sweet Ulknudel. Irma can be met at her foster home at any time.

Hier werden also ganz besondere Menschen gesucht.

About Irma

What life with Irma looks like

Irma is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Irma, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Irma?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Irma on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Irma if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Irma already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Irma isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Irma and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
