Adopt Iron

Chihuahua · Male · Senior · 12 years

Iron is a little old boy with a big heart, full of energy despite the passing years. He retains that contagious joy of life that makes you smile the moment you meet him. Always ready for a walk or a tender moment, he proves that one can be a senior without ever really slowing down. He has already shared his life with dogs, cats, and even NACs, and everything has always worked out well. Iron is a sociable companion who appreciates the company of others without difficulty. He can therefore join a home with other animals, provided, of course, that the usual introductions are respected. Like many dogs with a life history, Iron still has a few things to learn. Potty training is not yet mastered and will need to be worked on with patience and kindness. He will need an adopter ready to accompany him through this step, without pressure, understanding that accidents are part of the process. He benefits from the support of the 30 Millions d'Amis Foundation: his adoption is free (capped at 50 €) and assistance up to 1000 € for veterinary expenses is provided.

About Iron

What life with Iron looks like

Iron is a senior chihuahua dog waiting at SPA de Besançon in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting Iron, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Iron?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SPA de Besançon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Iron on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Iron if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SPA de Besançon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Iron already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Iron isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SPA de Besançon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Iron and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
