Izzy

Female · Young · 3 years

Izzy is a big friendly girl who loves her grub, and she has been known to steal items and counter surf if you're not watching. She enjoys her exercise and plenty of walks to help her burn off anything she may have pilfered and she doesn’t mind the company of other dogs if she’s been introduced properly. She can be quite strong on her lead so her new family must be sure they can handle her physically. Izzy loves to be made a fuss of and will be quite forward about letting you know that she doesn't think she's had enough! She likes playtime too but sometimes you have to get her going, but she does get excited and picks toys up. In a previous home, Izzy was frantic about people and animals outside her front window and would hurl herself at them, so it’s imperative that her new house not have a view that would encourage the same behaviours. Izzy has a lovely bond with her carers, at the centre and we know she will absolutely thrive with the right family and the right environment. She’s only three years old and still has lots to learn, and stability and routine are what she needs. Izzy requires an adult home with no other pets or dogs in neighbouring properties, and will need to be kept away from the front window if she can see people passing there. She is house trained and is good when left alone for short periods, never more than two hours.

About Izzy

What life with Izzy looks like

Izzy is a large young adult dog waiting at Dogs Trust Merseyside in Liverpool.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Izzy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Izzy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dogs Trust Merseyside handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Izzy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Izzy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Dogs Trust Merseyside will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Izzy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Izzy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dogs Trust Merseyside early rather than rehoming privately; they know Izzy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
