Adopt JACK

Australian Shepherd · Male · Senior · 10 years

JACK was entrusted to the association due to health issues of his owner. He is a very nice dog and has all the characteristics of an Australian Shepherd! He is active and responsive and needs daily walks, but on a leash as he pulls. Jack lives in a house without any problems. He is housebroken and can be left alone for a few hours without difficulties. He also travels very well in a car. Jack is social with females and some males but not all. He has a dominant character and knows very well how to make himself understood when he doesn't agree (without aggression). We will avoid the presence of small animals in his new environment (cats, ferrets, poultry..), and the presence of young children is to be avoided as he does not like to be their toy... We are looking for adopters who are at least available during the day, with time and energy to devote to Jack. Breed experts welcome.

About JACK

What life with JACK looks like

JACK is a medium-sized senior australian shepherd dog waiting at SOS Vies de Chiens in France.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇫🇷Adopting from France

French refuges follow the SPA framework: adopters sign a cession contract that includes sterilization, vaccinations, microchip identification, and rabies passport. Fees are typically €150–€300. Many refuges work with rescue transport partners for cross-border placements.

Frequently asked

Adopting JACK, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about JACK?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SOS Vies de Chiens handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw JACK on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt JACK if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SOS Vies de Chiens will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is JACK already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if JACK isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SOS Vies de Chiens early rather than rehoming privately; they know JACK and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
