Name Jack Number H 595-21 Gender Male Born 03.11.2018 In the animal shelter since 02.11.2021 neutered: Yes Size: approx. 60-65 cm Compatible with fellow animals More with female dogs Child-friendly: No Prefers to be alone: Yes Breed: Berner-Sennenhund Hello, my name is Jack! I am a male Berner Sennenhund and was born on November 3, 2018. Since November 2021, I have been living here in the animal shelter. Rassebedingt, I can already be called a senior. I have become very laid-back. Long walks are not necessary for me anymore. I can no longer handle them well because I unfortunately suffer from arthritis and a hip dislocation. It is said that I already have basic obedience training. However, in my youth, a lot was still missed that needed to be taught. One of the most important things is body care. I have to wear a muzzle because I can become very irritable. Also, I cannot be touched in certain places. With people I trust, I already allow a lot. But not everything! On the other hand, I can also be a real clown. I have two great handlers who take care of me regularly. Whether it's just being on the leash together, where I can move age-appropriately, or simply sitting together and enjoying the company. In the dog training classes that are located on the premises, I do well, although I am very excited because I have not learned such things. I have already received a few compliments. Children should not live in my new home. Maybe a confident female dog could help me. But I would have to check that. I know that I am very special. I would still be so happy to find my person to love. If you want to know more about me, just drop by. P.S. Here you can see how I have developed. Please listen with sound. Unfortunately, I need special food because I have a sensitive stomach. Gets along with other dogs.

Name Jack Nummer H 595-21 Geschlecht Männlich Geboren 03.11.2018 Im Tierheim seit 02.11.2021 Kastriert: Ja Größe: ca. 60-65 cm Verträglich mit Artgenossen Eher mit Hündinnen Kinderverträglich Nein Bleibt alleine Ja Rasse: Berner-Sennenhund Hallo, mein Name ist Jack! Ich bin ein Berner Sennenhund-Rüde und am 03. November 2018 geboren.

About Jack

What life with Jack looks like

Jack is a adult bernese mountain dog dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Wunstorf und Umgebung von 1934 e.V. in Wunstorf.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jack, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jack?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Wunstorf und Umgebung von 1934 e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jack on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jack if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Wunstorf und Umgebung von 1934 e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jack already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jack isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Wunstorf und Umgebung von 1934 e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jack and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
