Janis

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Janis is a spayed mixed-breed dog born in October 2024, who was taken in as a puppy along with her siblings Joplin, Jimmy and Jonas at the Svilos shelter. She is now ready for adoption and is waiting for a patient family. Janis initially meets new situations and strangers with caution and uncertainty. With people she knows, she is accessible and takes treats, but overall she is reserved and shy. She needs some time to realize that people don't want to harm her and that she can trust them. Janis gets along very well with other dogs, enjoys playing with her dog friends in the shelter's outdoor area, and shows herself to be active. The behavior towards cats and other animals is not known. Janis dreams of a patient, experienced dog-owning family who will show her how beautiful a dog's life can be and that the world is full of wonderful experiences. There should be no children in her future family; a confident first dog could give her security and orientation. With patience, understanding and time, Janis has a good chance of developing into a carefree dog. The height of the dog at the shoulder is 50 cm and she weighs approximately 16 kg.

About Janis

What life with Janis looks like

Janis is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Janis, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Janis?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Janis on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Janis if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Janis already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Janis isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Janis and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
