Adopt Jaqn

Alaskan Malamute · Male · Adult · 8 years

Jaqn's story is particularly special: As a young dog, he was found on the streets of Colombia by his former owner, taken in, and accompanied, cared for, and kept for many years. Later, Jaqn came to Germany to provide him with a long-term perspective. Currently, Jaqn lives in the interest of animal protection in a foster home at the this breed shelter in Ludwigsburg, integrated into a private household. There, he generally does very well, showing stability and everyday suitability. Due to the presence of cats, however, he cannot remain there permanently. Jaqn is generally quiet and rather content. The length of his walks is a matter of motivation – in particular, in the morning, a shorter round often suffices. He enjoys the contact with his people, is happy to be stroked and brushed, and currently prefers to stay in the same room. At the same time, he can easily spend several hours alone. Driving is one of his great strengths: Jaqn likes to go along and is always there where he can be taken. Jaqn brings a certain protective instinct and reacts sensitively to unrest or frequent comings and goings in the home. A structured, quiet daily routine helps him to stay balanced. He clearly shows when he does not want something – this is breed-specific and requires people who can correctly interpret and handle this behavior. When it comes to food, caution is advised: Jaqn is very greedy and will steal what is within reach – bread has particularly appealed to him. Open food should therefore be consistently avoided. Jaqn is no beginner dog but a character-strong companion with clear communication. Whoever gives him structure, quietness, and reliability gets a loyal, pleasant, and in everyday life rather relaxed dog.

About Jaqn

What life with Jaqn looks like

Jaqn is a large adult alaskan malamute dog waiting at Tierheim Ludwigsburg in Ludwigsburg.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jaqn, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jaqn?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Ludwigsburg handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jaqn on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jaqn if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Ludwigsburg will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jaqn already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jaqn isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Ludwigsburg early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jaqn and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
