Jara

Mixed Breed · Unknown

Jara is a very charming, 1.5-year-old (as of 08/2022) Terrier-Mix girl. The cute little girl lived with her sister Candela in a very poor neighborhood, where people live who often cannot take care of themselves and even less so of their pets. Without shelter in a house and repeatedly mistreated by passersby, Candela and Jara had already lost their trust in people when they came into the care of the animal welfare workers from Huelva. As is often the case with young dogs, Jara and her sister quickly realized that no one wanted to harm them in the animal shelter and soon began to make contact with their rescuers. Candela showed herself to be somewhat more relaxed and, with her funny and open nature, found a family in Spain. Jara is a bit more reserved and simply can't settle down with unfamiliar visitors. Therefore, we hope that our little princess has better chances of finding fans through the digital way. Jara was very shy at first, but now she has many four-legged friends and is very excited to go on one of the walks offered by volunteers. On the way, you hardly recognize the little timid one. Jara joyfully walks on the leash, maintains eye contact with the companion and is the first in the water when it comes to the small river near the shelter. Our beautiful water rat is looking for active people who like to be outside with their dog and explore the world together. Jara needs owners who can give her security and patiently wait until her new friend explores, understands and recognizes new situations as safe. Jara learns easily and quickly, and in the right environment with loving people, the lively Tricolor lady will soon become a real rascal who can storm the hearts of her whole neighborhood.

DE·Show original

About Jara

What life with Jara looks like

Jara is a small adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
