Jaramago

Galgo Español · Unknown · Puppy

Jaramago could be translated as gentle giant, the fearless one, the calm one, or the pleasant one. This is how I have experienced him since his arrival in Germany in June 2026. After his journey from Spain across the country, he finally arrived in NRW. A beautiful (very large) Galgo stepped out of the transporter. He was immediately house-trained, walks well on a leash. He has no stress with loud noises. Everything that rattles on the busy country road is fairly indifferent to him. Even thunderstorms, the roller shutter breaks loose from the tape and crashes down next to him, doesn't bother him at all. He masters veterinary visits confidently, including blood sampling. Even the worming treatment is eaten as a treat. When he spots wildlife, he probably thinks it's tasty, but he's so nice and can be easily persuaded to keep going. The neighbor's cat is definitely worth a glance or two, but the crazy, rambunctious terrier next door is completely unimpressed. He's fine alone at home, but you should secure sheepskins or flour bags. 🙂 Although the yellow bag is freely accessible, he shows no interest in it. Driving is no problem, if he squeezes himself in (Hyundai I30 estate car, the sky is a bit low at the entrance), he immediately lies down and enjoys the ride. What you need to know: He is currently receiving allopurinol. 2 times a day. He also receives a diet food. Why all this? He is Leishmania positive, but shows no signs of illness. We had four appointments at the dog school, just to get an initial assessment of him. We also had an instructive weekend with greyhounds. Another appointment with an intensive training followed. In the encounters we had, he showed no major escapes. He has already found 2 greyhound friends. He has growled at pushy fellow dogs. Jaramago is vaccinated, chipped, and neutered. He is looking forward to visitors in the Gevelsberg area.

Was man wissen muss: Im Moment bekommt er Allopurinol.

About Jaramago

What life with Jaramago looks like

Jaramago is a extra-large puppy/kitten galgo español dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Far From Fear e.V. in Germany.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jaramago, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jaramago?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Far From Fear e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jaramago on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jaramago if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Far From Fear e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jaramago already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jaramago isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Far From Fear e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jaramago and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
