He arrived young, strong, full of vitality and energy, with a peculiar bad temper. Over time, he became a friendly old dog who loves walks and many parties, loves human company. He is the oldest dog in the shelter, has been with us throughout all these years, has seen so many things happen, has seen so many dogs come and go. The promise we made to find him a family has not yet been fulfilled. Time is urgent, we believe in miracles. Our Jardel is very gentle and affectionate and gets along well with dogs and people. He is a very gentle dog who needs a soft and warm bed and love. He still likes to take short walks, but is not as fast as he used to be. He was thrown into the shelter at about 6 months old. He survived, was adopted but returned after a few days and has been spending his days in the shelter since then... This lovely male dog would like to find a home before it's too late. About Jardel

What life with Jardel looks like

Jardel is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Abrigo de Carinho in Portugal.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇵🇹Adopting from Portugal

Portuguese rescues coordinate extensively with European rescue networks for cross-border placements, especially for galgos and podencos. Sterilization, vaccinations, and microchip ID are standard. Adoption fees typically cover the full vet workup.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jardel, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jardel?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Abrigo de Carinho handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jardel on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jardel if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Abrigo de Carinho will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jardel already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jardel isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Abrigo de Carinho early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jardel and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PT). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
