Jasper

Male Β· Young Β· 1 year

Jasper is a 1-year-old Maltese who came to us after being severely neglected by his previous owner. Despite his difficult start, he is an incredibly sweet dog. Once you get to know him and trust him, you'll have a great friend in Jasper! He loves to play and after all that playing, he loves to snuggle up on your lap and fall asleep. But don't let his cute appearance fool you. Jasper is insecure and finds the world still very exciting. Especially outside and with people he doesn't know well, he can bark a lot. On a leash, he can lash out from his insecurity. He is also very watchful and still has a lot to learn. That's why we are looking for a quiet home for Jasper without children, with experienced people who understand what an insecure dog needs. With patience, calmness, and a gentle, positive approach, he can learn step by step to trust the world more. Jasper gets along well with other dogs. We think a dog companion will also do wonders for his self-confidence and as a support. Interested in Jasper? Sensitive, eager to learn and brave when necessary.

NLΒ·Show original

Interesse in Jasper?

About Jasper

What life with Jasper looks like

Jasper is a medium-sized young adult dog waiting at Dierentehuis in Netherlands.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡±Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jasper, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jasper?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Dierentehuis handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jasper on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jasper if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Dierentehuis will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Jasper already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jasper isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Dierentehuis early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jasper and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
