Jens

European Shorthair · Male · Kitten · 4 months

The three kittens Hannah, Hilde, and Jens were born at the end of January and had a difficult start in life. They come from poor husbandry and have had few positive experiences with people so far. Despite the unfavorable circumstances from which they come, all three are clean and reliably use their cat litter box. Health-wise, they are stable – they lack only time, patience, and loving people who can show them that the world can also be safe. As they have had little contact with strangers so far, the three are still very shy. New situations scare them, and it is likely that they will hide under the bed for weeks in their new home and only come out at night to eat. Especially Hilde currently shows how insecure she still is: If you approach her, she hisses and spits. This is not a bad character, but pure fear. With patience, calmness, and understanding, such behavior can change over time. For Hannah, Hilde, and Jens, we are therefore looking for quiet, patient people who do not want to force anything on the cats and let them set their own pace. An ideal home would be one with a already trusting first cat, which they can orient themselves by. If you give these three little souls the chance, you might not get cuddly cats right away, but you will have the opportunity to see how trust grows from fear over time. If you are not deterred and want to give the three kittens the time they need, we are very happy to hear from you.

DE·Show original

About Jens

What life with Jens looks like

Jens is a puppy/kitten european shorthair cat waiting at Tierheim Northeim.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jens, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jens?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Northeim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jens on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jens if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Northeim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jens already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jens isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Northeim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jens and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
