Jimmy

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Jimmy is a neutered mixed-breed dog born in October 2024, who was brought to the animal shelter by a veterinarian along with his three siblings Jonas, Janis and Joplin. He is now ready for adoption and is looking for loving, patient people who can give him a forever home. Jimmy is a sensitive, young male dog who is currently struggling with uncertainties when interacting with people. However, he already shows his affectionate side with familiar people: he comes curious to the fence of his enclosure, takes treats carefully from the hand, even licks them off and presses himself closely against the person standing outside. These moments clearly show how much he longs for closeness and attention. As soon as someone enters his enclosure, however, Jimmy becomes uncertain. Although he still accepts treats, he does not yet allow being touched or petted. If someone tries to approach him, he timidly steps back. It is obvious that he wants to trust, but is not yet daring to take the step completely. Since Jimmy has been at the shelter, he has made progress in small but steady steps. With his siblings, he appears completely carefree: he plays enthusiastically, is cheerful and enjoys the company of the other dogs very much. His behavior towards cats and other animals is unknown to us. We are confident that with the right support, Jimmy will continue to overcome his fears. Therefore, we are looking for a loving home for him with patient and understanding people who can give him the necessary time and security so that he can build trust. Young children should not be present in the new home. With empathy and patience, Jimmy will learn to accept the closeness of people and lead a carefree dog's life. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

HU·Show original

About Jimmy

What life with Jimmy looks like

Jimmy is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jimmy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jimmy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jimmy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jimmy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jimmy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jimmy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jimmy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
