Her creamy-white curly coat, amber-colored eyes, and perked-up ears give her a truly special look—somewhere between a wolf, a German Shepherd, and a cuddly toy. She’s a real eye-catcher that you won’t soon forget. But behind this extraordinary appearance lies a story that touches your heart. Jody was found in a village—covered in ticks and fleas, desperately searching for food. To feed her two puppies, she used to steal chickens from neighbors’ gardens. Not out of malice, but because a mother dog will do anything to keep her babies alive. Her puppies are long since safe. Jody is still waiting. For over a year now, she’s been living at the shelter, hoping every single day to finally be noticed. And yet, Jody is an incredibly lovable dog. At first, she can be a bit cautious, but she loves people and seeks their company. With them, she finds security and guidance. Once she’s gained trust, she reveals her cuddly, gentle, and loyal side. Jody is very social with other dogs. She spends time every day with a group of about ten dogs and shows herself to be absolutely compatible there. Unfortunately, cats aren’t among her friends. Jody especially loves water. Whether it’s a stream, a puddle, or a dog pool—whenever she spots water, her joy knows no bounds. 💦 We suspect Jody is a Croatian Shepherd mix (Hrvatski Ovčar). This rare breed, originally bred as a herding dog, is known for its intelligence, eagerness to learn, and close bond with its humans. Croatian Shepherds don’t just want to be physically active—they also crave mental stimulation. For Jody, we’re looking for active people who enjoy shared adventures. Long walks, hikes, nose work, search games, trick training, or even dog sports would surely bring her great joy. But after all that activity, she equally loves being close to her people and happily snuggles up beside them. And maybe right behind those amber-colored eyes lies exactly the dog you’ve been searching for all along: a survivor, a loving mom, a loyal friend—a little wolf in sheep’s clothing. (Hier klicken) .fusion-body .fusion-builder-c

About Jody

What life with Jody looks like

Jody is a small young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Nordic Strays e.V. in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jody, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jody?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Nordic Strays e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jody on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jody if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Nordic Strays e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jody already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jody isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Nordic Strays e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jody and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
