Joey

Border Collie Β· Male Β· Young Β· 2 years

Joey is almost 3 yrs old and has been neutered. He came into our care from Romania where he had spent his life in a foster sanctuary amongst several other dogs in a very rural area.Joey has lived a very sheltered life and the concept of venturing out into the big wide world is a worrying one for him. Joey will need a lot of support transitioning into a home but with patience and understanding we feel that Joey is now ready to take that step. He really likes the safety of his kennel and is often found curled up resting in his bed, Joey will venture out for walks with staff that he feels comfortable with but he still needs some encouragement at times. He’s not forthcoming with interactions and will likely avoid people where possible. He’s still very anxious and would benefit from a stable routine where his expectations are met on a daily basis. He needs a very quiet and calm home environment with minimal visitors. Joey would gain a lot of confidence from living with another dog although it is not essential. Joey will likely need at least 2-3 visits before going into a home. HOMING FEE Β£380

About Joey

What life with Joey looks like

Joey is a large young adult border collie dog waiting at Border Collie Trust GB in United Kingdom.

A young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible β€” a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" β€” quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures β€” to let them settle.

πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Border Collie Trust GB handles screening and the adoption contract directly β€” TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad β€” Border Collie Trust GB will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Joey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported β€” ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work β€” that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Border Collie Trust GB early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect β€” names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
