adoption requirements adoption process Now request this animal! adoption requirements adoption process Now request this dog! Joey is traveling directly to his final destination! His story: Joey is one of eight siblings—along with Tonda, Ida, Alf, Tashiko, Roberto, Sabsi, and Akashi—he was rescued from very poor living conditions by the Animal Police. The puppies lived with their mother with a man who kept them in miserable conditions. Our animal welfare worker Dorel was immediately willing to take the entire family into the Shelter Busag, but only the eight puppies were brought in. The mother dog had to stay with the owner, who received a fine and was required to spay her and improve her living conditions. We still hope to take her in someday. In the circle of his siblings, Joey is a completely normal, cheerful puppy: He plays, runs, and runs through the enclosure with his siblings, showing himself to be open and lively. One can see how much his little dog family gives him security. However, Joey is the shyest of the litter towards people. If you pick him up, he immediately starts to tremble—not because he is aggressive, but because he is simply very unsettled and does not understand what is happening to him. He lets everything happen, but he needs time, calmness, and patient companionship to build trust and learn that touch can be beautiful. Joey looks almost identical to his brother Roberto: He has predominantly dark fur with a few brown accents and will likely grow to be medium to large, like his siblings. We assume it is a mix of German Shepherds. The mother weighs around 20 kg. German Shepherds are very loyal, intelligent, and hardworking dogs who require both physical exertion and mental work. Joey will also benefit from loving, clear guidance, understanding training, and appropriate tasks in the future. In addition, the puppyhood puberty is also approaching—a phase where everything that has been going well will be re-examined and tested again. For Joey, we are looking for people who are willing to guide him through this time with calm, loving consistency and give him the security he so desperately needs. We wish for Joey a more quiet, rural home, preferably with a confident only dog that he can orient himself to. People with experience in dealing with insecure dogs would be a great joy for him. Whoever does not demand anything from Joey but allows him to build trust at his own pace will be rewarded with a very special, sensitive travel companion. Joey travels microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas to his new home. He will of course bring his EU pet passport with him. Do you fulfill Joey's wish? He would also be very happy to have a foster home as a stepping stone into his new life. Many thanks to Susanne H.! You have given Joey his name! Date: 05.01.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen! Vielen Dank Susanne H.! Du hast Joey seinen Namen geschenkt! Stand: 05.01.2026

About Joey

What life with Joey looks like

Joey is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joey, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joey?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joey on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joey if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joey already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joey isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joey and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
