Adopt Johnny

Male · Adult · 6 years

Johnny, neutered male dog, 6 years old, 40 cm tall, weighs approximately 10 kg, foreign. Background. Johnny was found at the end of January, partially hidden in a sewer pipe. He had a wound on his leg, which is why he probably sought a safe place. The wound on his leg was severe and infected. After a long course of antibiotics, he underwent surgery. The recovery was very successful thereafter. Johnny has practiced using his leg again and that is going well. Character. Johnny is a loving dog who adores human attention and enjoys being petted. He gets along well with the old cat in the foster family. He walks nicely on a leash and is socially inclined towards other dogs when outdoors. Because Johnny likes all the attention for himself, we prefer to place him as the only dog. Who would like to give Johnny the golden bowl he so deserves?

Read original (nl)

Johnny, gecastreerde reu, 6 jaar, 40 cm. hoog, weegt ca. 10 kilo, buitenland. Achtergrond.

About Johnny

What life with Johnny looks like

Johnny is a medium-sized adult dog waiting at Stichting AAI in Amsterdam.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇳🇱Adopting from Netherlands

Dutch shelters typically require a household assessment and an adoption contract. Animals are routinely sterilized, microchipped, and registered in the national pet database (NDG) before placement.

Frequently asked

Adopting Johnny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Johnny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Stichting AAI handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Johnny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Johnny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Stichting AAI will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Johnny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Johnny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Stichting AAI early rather than rehoming privately; they know Johnny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (NL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
