Johnny

Jack Russell Terrier · Male · Young · 2 years

Little Johnny is still waiting for his happily ever after… Little Johnny came into our care after being rescued as a stray. We don’t know what he has been through or what life was like before he found his way to us, but one thing was clear when he arrived — he was a very frightened, shut-down little boy who simply didn’t know how to enjoy the world around him. Since coming into our care, Johnny has been on a structured rehabilitation and training plan, and watching him slowly come out of his shell has been incredibly rewarding. The frightened little boy who first arrived is still in there, but he has come such a long way. He is beginning to discover that the world can be a safe and happy place, and that he can enjoy the things he once found so overwhelming. ❤️ Johnny still has a journey ahead of him, and he is looking for a very special adopter who understands rescue dogs and, in particular, nervous and under-socialised dogs. He needs someone who will never rush him, but instead give him the time, patience and reassurance he needs to continue building his confidence. One of Johnny’s biggest challenges is walking on a lead. This is something he has not yet mastered, and his new family will need to be prepared to work slowly and positively with him, helping him learn that going out into the world on a lead can be something to enjoy rather than fear.

About Johnny

What life with Johnny looks like

Johnny is a medium-sized young adult jack russell terrier dog waiting at RSPCA Danaher Animal Home in Braintree.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Johnny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Johnny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. RSPCA Danaher Animal Home handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Johnny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Johnny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — RSPCA Danaher Animal Home will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Johnny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Johnny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with RSPCA Danaher Animal Home early rather than rehoming privately; they know Johnny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (EN). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
