Adopt Johnny

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 11 years

I am looking for a lovely new home for Johnny male, born around 2015, outdoor cat, cuddly Johnny in typical sleeping pose Johnny is a people-oriented, neutered tomcat who enjoys being stroked extensively. Then, in sheer contentment, he will purr loudly. However, he also makes it abundantly clear when he has had enough. This can sometimes happen in an instant. Occasionally, his claws might be used. Johnny likes being scratched – if he is in the mood. He also enjoys taking the time for a play session with you, during which he relishes full attention. Johnny in the Green: "Why squeeze into a garden chair when you have a table?" Johnny is used to having free roam and thus we are searching for a new domicile in a quiet residential area for him, so that he can, as his nature dictates, make independent excursions in his surroundings. Johnny at the Observation Post Tree: Where Johnny is, he wants TO BE in charge. Therefore, he closely observes his surroundings – also from all possible hiding spots. He does not need another male feline in his immediate vicinity, as that only causes stress. Johnny observes the other cats in the garden from the Observation Post Roof: Observing from a good hiding spot: Always be on high alert. With Johnny, one must be prepared everywhere!

About Johnny

What life with Johnny looks like

Johnny is a senior mixed breed cat waiting at Vereinigung für Katzenschutz Nürnberg-Fürth e.V. in Germany.

Senior cats are the gentlest house guests: predictable, mostly silent, and grateful for a sunny windowsill. Older cats often have minor dental or kidney issues — keep an eye on water intake and weight. Many sleep eighteen hours a day and want no part of any drama.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Johnny, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Johnny?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vereinigung für Katzenschutz Nürnberg-Fürth e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Johnny on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Johnny if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vereinigung für Katzenschutz Nürnberg-Fürth e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Johnny already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Johnny isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vereinigung für Katzenschutz Nürnberg-Fürth e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Johnny and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
