adoption requirements adoption process Adopt this animal now! adoption requirements adoption process Joko has found a home! His story: 25582 Hohenaspe. Our Joko came from Romania in May 2021 and after a brief stop at the stray shelter, found his own home. Unfortunately, due to the health conditions of his owner Joko, he must now leave this home because he can no longer provide what Joko needs. Joko is about 7 years old and with a shoulder height of 60 cm, an average-sized male dog. He lives together with other dogs and it works well. Joko likes to play with four- and two-legged beings and is probably younger than his birthdate suggests. On the leash, of course, he should only be allowed to run free because he is unsure. Unsure, that is also how he is in everyday life. He shows this when he is in an uncomfortable situation, he retreats to his place. So he also reacts to direct dog contacts by retreating. He prefers smaller dogs and likes to play with them. He is very people-oriented and oriented towards them. Therefore, Joko looks for sovereign and self-confident people by his side. Older children in the family will not be a barrier to Joko feeling comfortable and secure. He is very happy to be cuddled and has no problem with contact with strangers and being stroked. He is there in the dog salon when his "mom" works and has no problem with customer traffic, he is happy about every contact and attention for him. Joko brings herding gene with him. Typical of the breed, Joko watches the house and garden and barks at anything suspicious. The basic commands are mastered by Joko if he gets a treat. Typical of the breed, he does not like to be overly challenged and reacts with indifference. We wish Joko a new home in a rural environment. Too much commotion would overwhelm him due to his insecurity. There should also be a smaller second dog in the house, then Joko feels safer. Joko will be neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, dewormed, and treated for fleas in his new home. He will only be adopted against a positive EU pet passport. Thank you, Nina F.! You gave Joko a great name and thus an identity!

Vielen Dank an Nina F.!

About Joko

What life with Joko looks like

Joko is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joko, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joko?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joko on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joko if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joko already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joko isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joko and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
