Adopt Jonas

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Jonas is a neutered mixed-breed dog born in October 2024, who was taken in at the shelter Svilos as a puppy together with his siblings Joplin, Jimmy and Janis. He is now ready for his departure and is waiting for people who will meet him with patience and understanding. The young dog initially appears cautious and unsure in new situations and with unfamiliar people. With people he knows, he is approachable and gladly accepts treats. Overall, he is rather reserved and needs time to realize that people mean well by him. Jonas gets along very well with other dogs. He enjoys playing with his companions in the shelter's yard and shows great joy in movement. We currently cannot provide information about his behavior towards cats or other animals. For Jonas we are looking for a quiet, experienced dog owner's home without children, where he is given time to adjust at his own pace. An experienced first dog could help him gain confidence and orient himself better. With loving guidance, patience and understanding, Jonas has the best chances of developing into a happy and trusting companion. The dog's shoulder height is approximately 55 cm and he weighs approximately 25 kg.

About Jonas

What life with Jonas looks like

Jonas is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Jonas, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Jonas?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Jonas on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Jonas if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Jonas already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Jonas isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Jonas and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
