Adopt Joplin

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 1 year

Joplin is a spayed mixed-breed dog born in October 2024. As a puppy, she was brought to the animal shelter along with her three siblings Jonas, Janis, and Jimmy by a veterinarian. She is now ready for adoption and is looking for loving, patient people who can give her a forever home. Joplin is a sensitive young dog who is still cautious and unsure around people. However, when she is with familiar people, she already shows how much love and affection she has: Curiously, she comes up to the fence of her enclosure, takes treats gently from the hand, and enjoys human company by snuggling closely against the fence. In these moments, it becomes clear how much she desires trust and security. However, when someone enters her enclosure, her insecurity still prevails. Although she continues to accept treats, she cannot yet tolerate touch or cuddles. When someone approaches her, she timidly retreats. Still, one can see that Joplin would like to build trust - she just needs the time to take this step at her own pace. For Joplin, we wish a quiet and loving home with patient people who meet her with understanding, empathy, and without pressure. With the right support, she will learn to trust and enjoy human company, so that she can start a happy and carefree life as a dog step by step. The height of the dog at the shoulder is about 48 cm and she weighs about 20 kg. She is currently at an animal shelter in Serbia. This animal can be anxious in unfamiliar situations.

About Joplin

What life with Joplin looks like

Joplin is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Animal Care Hungary.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joplin, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joplin?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Animal Care Hungary handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joplin on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joplin if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Animal Care Hungary will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joplin already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joplin isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Animal Care Hungary early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joplin and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
