Adopt Joschi

Male · Adult · 7 years

Joschi is a quiet, sensitive dog who never really had the chance to learn to trust people – and yet, one can sense that deep within him lies the desire for closeness and security. Since puppyhood, he has lived together with his siblings, Melisa and Jonny, in the Romanian animal shelter. The loud and overstimulating shelter life has led to Joschi initially approaching new situations, unfamiliar people, and unknown environments with caution and insecurity. At the same time, he continually shows small, valuable steps towards people. Among his siblings, Joschi is the most open. During our last visit to Romania, he even approached us on his own, sniffing our hands cautiously and taking treats directly from our hands. For many, this may sound like little – but for Joschi, it is a significant trust-building step and clearly shows that he has potential if given the necessary time and chance. More proximity, however, he still does not dare to approach with strangers. With familiar people, he is much more open and oriented. What has primarily been lacking in his life so far is a stable primary caregiver he can rely on and who can provide him with security. In the familiar pack, Joschi is friendly and social. He lives peacefully with his known dogs and does not seek conflicts. However, unfamiliar dogs still unsettle him at first. While he does not react aggressively, he instead shows submissiveness and insecurity. With confident guidance and clear orientation, he will learn to handle such situations better.

About Joschi

What life with Joschi looks like

Joschi is a large adult dog waiting at Arme Hundeseelen in Năsăud.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇷🇴Adopting from Romania

Frequently asked

Adopting Joschi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joschi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Arme Hundeseelen handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joschi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joschi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Arme Hundeseelen will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joschi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joschi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Arme Hundeseelen early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joschi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
