Josef

European Shorthair · Male

Josef is a very sensitive fellow who can quickly become overwhelmed in new situations. Therefore, he needs people who give him the necessary time and peace to arrive at his own pace and gain trust. Once Josef has met his caregivers, he shows his gentle and loving side. He enjoys the closeness to his people, but wants to be able to decide for himself when something becomes too much for him. He also makes this very clear - usually he gives a small paw tap to let you know. Claws are rarely used. 😊 We wish Josef a home as a single cat in apartment living with a secured balcony. A quiet environment without much hustle and bustle would be ideal, so he can feel safe and relax. His future people should understand his body language, respect his boundaries and give him the time he needs. Josef doesn't have to be a cat that is constantly in the spotlight - he can just be himself. Do you think you are the right person for Josef or would you like to get to know him better? Then contact the shelter.

About Josef

What life with Josef looks like

Josef is a adult european shorthair cat waiting at Tierschutzverein für Tirol in Innsbruck.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇦🇹Adopting from Austria

Austrian shelters follow the federal Tierschutzgesetz framework: adopters sign a Schutzvertrag (protection contract) committing to the animal's welfare. Spay/neuter, microchip, and vaccinations are included; fees typically range €150–€350.

Frequently asked

Adopting Josef, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Josef?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein für Tirol handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Josef on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Josef if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein für Tirol will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Josef already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Josef isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein für Tirol early rather than rehoming privately; they know Josef and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
