Joshi

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Yoshi came to us from our allied animal shelter Alsfeld, in the hope of improving his chances of being adopted. For there, he had already been sitting for a long time without suitable inquiries. Here, he shows his handsome male dog from his best side. He is super compatible with fellow animals and shares his room with different dogs now and then. Yoshi is particularly compatible with female dogs, while with male dogs, it depends on their affinity. He likes to play and run around with the dogs he trusts in our yard, showing what a funny guy he can be. Even on walks, Yoshi is a dream. He walks well on a leash, is well oriented to people, and various environmental stimuli do not faze him. Dog encounters are no problem for him, but if he is teased, he can sometimes give a comeback. Our volunteers love him, and everyone is happy to take him out because he is friendly and open to everyone and enjoys getting his cuddles. Yoshi was given up because in his old home, he took charge and claimed everything for himself. Even the sofa and things that fell down were fiercely defended by him. Here, a muzzle should definitely be used, especially in the beginning. Otherwise, Yoshi can handle the usual things: both car rides and house training are no problem, and if you are looking for a companion for walks or dog sports, he is motivated. Because he is a sporty, intelligent dog who likes to learn new things quickly. For the 2021-born boy, we are looking for dog-experienced people who are not intimidated by his behavior at home by calmness and consistency and who work on his issues with the help of a trainer in the household area. Small animals and children should not live in the house. For further questions about his background, the animal shelter Alsfeld is happy to assist.

About Joshi

What life with Joshi looks like

Joshi is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Darmstadt in Darmstadt.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joshi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joshi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Darmstadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joshi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joshi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Darmstadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joshi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joshi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Darmstadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joshi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
