Josie

Mixed Breed · Female · Puppy · 5 months

Josie is in the public shelter. Some dogs are eager to jump into every adventure. Others prefer to observe the world from a safe distance first. Our little Josie is more of the cautious type. The brown female with the black snout is just about 4-5 months old, is still a bit shy and wants one thing above all: people where she can feel safe and can arrive at her own pace. Josie's life began with a happy encounter. Outside Bistrița in Romania, a dog-loving man built a house. He noticed a female dog staying near his property again and again. Because he loves dogs, he started feeding her regularly. Over time, the female dog gained his trust. And one day, she didn't come alone, but brought her four puppies. The man wanted to help the little dog family and turned to the shelter in Bistrița. But there was unfortunately no possibility to take the puppies. So he decided to care for the little ones himself and give them a place on his property until they found a home. Unfortunately, the situation developed differently than hoped. The property is not fenced so far and the four puppies could move freely. Together they explored their surroundings and also reached the neighboring property. There they discovered chickens and began to hunt them. One of the chickens was injured. Since this incident, the neighbor has threatened to kill the puppies. For the little dog family, the situation suddenly became very dangerous. To protect the three black siblings Josef, Maloja and Margit from further incidents and possible attacks, they had to be housed on chains. Josie was lucky in the first place: a temporary foster home for her was found in Romania. But her luck was not long-lasting! The little mouse was only a few days later alone in the public shelter of Bistrita 🙁 Therefore, we are also urgently looking for a final place or a foster home in Germany so that she can leave as soon as possible. Josie is not only different from her black siblings by her brown fur. She also brings her very own character. The little dog is initially shy and reserved towards people. She is not one of the puppies that immediately rushes to every person and throws herself into the middle of the action. Instead, she observes quietly what is happening around her. Josie is an extremely cute and gentle young dog. She has a rather quiet nature and probably just needs a little more time to get used to new people and situations. Her reserve should not be confused with disinterest. Rather, we wish for her people who understand her cautious nature and give her the opportunity to build trust without pressure. With her about four months, Josie currently weighs around 5 kg and has a shoulder height of approximately 30 to 35 cm. So she is currently a bit smaller than her siblings. We suspect that she could become medium-sized when fully grown. However, her final size cannot be predicted with certainty. Josie gets along well with other dogs. She grew up with her siblings and knows the contact with conspecifics. A special feature is her shortened tail. Whether Josie was born with it or why her tail is shorter, we do not know. However, due to her shortened tail, it is not possible to determine the exact cause.

Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt dieses Tier anfragen! Vermittlungsvoraussetzungen Vermittlungsablauf Jetzt diesen Hund anfragen!

About Josie

What life with Josie looks like

Josie is a medium-sized puppy mixed breed dog waiting at Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. in München.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Josie, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Josie?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Josie on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Josie if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Josie already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Josie isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Ein Herz für Streuner e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Josie and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
