Joy

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 13 years

A medium-sized senior lady is looking for a peaceful little spot 🐾 Joy is an older dog who came to our shelter after experiencing a severe blow of fate. One of her owners became seriously ill, and the other passed away. Thus, at an advanced age, Joy lost her home and had to start all over again. 💔 Shortly after her arrival, we noticed changes on one of her ears. Further examinations have now unfortunately confirmed that Joy is suffering from a progressive tumor. A cure is no longer possible. Therefore, we’d like to make the time she has left as beautiful as possible for her. 🍃 We’re looking for a loving palliative care placement or end-of-life foster home where Joy can spend her final weeks or months in a calm, peaceful environment. 🏡 No one can predict how much time she has left—but what’s important to us is that she doesn’t have to spend this time in the shelter. Veterinary care can continue to be provided through the shelter, allowing us to accompany and support her treatment. 🐕 Joy is an exceptionally friendly and people-oriented dog. She enjoys being close to her humans and meets them openly, affectionately, and with great warmth. In everyday life, she’s easier to handle than you might initially expect. She can be left alone for hours at a time, walks reliably off-leash, and generally gets along well with other dogs when running freely. However, in her own home, Joy would like to be the only dog and not share her center of life with another canine companion. For Joy, we’re looking for people who would like to give her a sense of security once more—without high expectations, but simply with the desire to make this older dog’s final phase of life as wonderful as possible. She doesn’t need a “perfect” home; she just needs a loving heart and a quiet place where she can feel truly at home. If you can imagine fulfilling Joy’s last wish, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Even if you know someone for whom Joy would be the perfect companion, we’d appreciate any referrals you might have. Perhaps Joy will still get to spend her final chapter of life in her very own home—that would be the most beautiful gift you could give her 🙏💝 FACT SHEET In the shelter since January 10, 2026 Age: October 14, 2013 Breed: Dachshund/Spitz/Corgi mix Gender: Female, spayed Origin: Germany Reason for surrender: Illness Owner With cats/small animals? mittelgroße Seniorin sucht ruhiges Plätzchen 🐾 Joy ist eine ältere Hündin, die nach einem schweren Schicksalsschlag zu uns ins Tierheim kam.

About Joy

What life with Joy looks like

Joy is a medium-sized senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
