Adopt Joy

Mixed Breed · Female · Kitten · 22 months

Joy needs a very special home with an experienced owner who will give her time and space to learn that not all people are cruel. She had such a horrific start in life that she was removed from her owner. Joy has never been loved and does not understand that not all humans will hurt her. She hisses at everything because she is scared. She has been with us about a month and we have seen a big change in her in that time. She no longer hides and is very keen on her little food treats and can be stroked whilst she is eating them. Joy loves playing with the kittens she is currently being fostered with and defends them with everything she has when we pick them up as she is concerned they will be hurt. She is gradually understanding that the kittens are quite happy to be picked up. Joy is being fostered with Harkonnen, Atriedes and Fremen. She would love to go with one of them, particularly Atreides or Fremen, the tabbies. If they are adoopted she would make a good companion to a single young kitten as she has a mothering instinct. Joy is not suitable for children, she needs time and patience whilst she learns that humans can be kind. About Joy

What life with Joy looks like

Joy is a large puppy/kitten mixed breed cat waiting at Hounslow Animal Welfare Society in United Kingdom.

Kittens are tiny chaos engines for about six months and then mellow rapidly. They need two scheduled feedings, a litter box per cat plus one extra, and somewhere high to climb. Spay/neuter happens around six months — most shelters arrange this before adoption.

🇬🇧Adopting from United Kingdom

UK shelters work under the Pet Travel Scheme (post-Brexit, the EU pet passport is not valid; a UK Animal Health Certificate is required for travel into the EU). Most UK rescues focus on domestic placements but some work with EU partners.

Frequently asked

Adopting Joy, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Joy?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Hounslow Animal Welfare Society handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Joy on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Joy if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Hounslow Animal Welfare Society will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. UK adopters: post-Brexit travel into the EU requires an Animal Health Certificate. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Joy already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Joy isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Hounslow Animal Welfare Society early rather than rehoming privately; they know Joy and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (the shelter's own language). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
