Adopt Kairo

Mixed Breed · Male

Kairo is neutered and was born around 2019. His story is a very moving one: He was found severely injured after getting tangled in barbed wire and being trapped there. He had to be cut free from the wire and subsequently received long-term medical care and rehabilitation. Initially, Kairo was extremely distrustful and distant towards people. He did not want any contact and seemed to have had few, if any, good experiences with humans in his life so far. All the more beautiful is his development: After about half a year with us, he is slowly beginning to trust. Now, Kairo shows that he can enjoy closeness with familiar cat cuddlers. Sometimes, he even cautiously asks for cuddles. He likes the contact with people and being stroked – but everything at his own pace. For him, it takes people with a lot of patience, calmness, and empathy who do not pressure him and give him the time he needs. Kairo gets along well with other cats, so socializing is no problem. This also speaks to his social character. For Kairo, we wish for a quiet home without hustle and bustle, where he can find security and stability. It is also very important that he later has the opportunity for outdoor access. Being outside, exploring the environment, and catching mice seem to be part of his life and are an important part of his well-being. Kairo is not a tomcat who immediately trusts – but one who means it all the more honestly when he does. Whoever meets him with patience and respect will get to experience how a cautious, distrustful tomcat becomes a trusting and grateful companion.

About Kairo

What life with Kairo looks like

Kairo is a adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Lübbersdorf in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kairo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kairo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Lübbersdorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kairo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kairo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Lübbersdorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kairo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kairo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Lübbersdorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kairo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
