Kaleo (Zahnpatient)

Male · Young · 3 years

Kaleo (Weight approx. 1.2kg, castration quarantine until 13.02.26) arrived with us as a found animal, so we do not know his background or exact age. He came in a very neglected condition. An X-ray shows retrograde tooth growth throughout (meaning the tooth roots are growing further into the jaw), which has already narrowed his tear ducts on both sides. Therefore, the area around his eyes must be cared for accordingly. He receives permanent pain medication. Kaleo is a sweet, little treasure and very affectionate. However, his compatibility with other animals is not known to us. So far, Kaleo lives in indoor housing. If interested, please contact us via email () and include a few photos of your enclosure, as well as one from your bunny’s vaccination card.

Bisher lebt Kaleo in Innenhaltung. Bei Interesse kontaktieren Sie uns bitte per E-Mail () und fügen direkt ein paar Fotos von Ihrem Gehege, sowie eines vom Impfpass Ihres Kaninchens hinzu.

About Kaleo (Zahnpatient)

What life with Kaleo (Zahnpatient) looks like

Kaleo (Zahnpatient) is a small young adult rabbit waiting at Tierheim Düsseldorf in Düsseldorf.

Rabbits are social animals — most shelters recommend adopting them in bonded pairs rather than alone. They need fresh hay daily, several hours of out-of-cage time, and rabbit-safe spaces to explore. They live eight to twelve years, longer than many people expect.

Note from the shelter: Chronic dental disease with retrograde tooth growth affecting tear ducts, requires permanent pain medication and daily eye area care

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kaleo (Zahnpatient), answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kaleo (Zahnpatient)?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Düsseldorf handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kaleo (Zahnpatient) on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kaleo (Zahnpatient) if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Düsseldorf will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kaleo (Zahnpatient) already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most rabbits on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kaleo (Zahnpatient) isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Düsseldorf early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kaleo (Zahnpatient) and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
