Kalle Krawalle

Male · Adult · 7 years

Kalle, affectionately known as Kalle-Krawalle, was born in June 2019 and is an unneutered Parson Russell Terrier with pedigree, bred from a hunting-oriented line. He’s a true terrier—confident, spirited, eager to bark, and an absolute bundle of energy. Anyone familiar with and fond of terriers will recognize many of his typical traits. Kalle forms a close bond with his primary caregivers. Once he’s gained trust, he loves his people unconditionally and makes a loyal companion. At the same time, he needs both physical and mental stimulation to stay happy and fulfilled. Nosework, mantrailing, or other shared activities would bring him great joy. Equally important, though, are sufficient periods of rest and calm, because Kalle quickly becomes stressed and has trouble calming himself down on his own. In everyday life, Kalle is house-trained, doesn’t destroy anything, and loves nothing more than cuddling. Most of all, he loves sleeping at night in bed with his people, cherishing the closeness and warmth of his loved ones. According to his previous owner, Kalle can also open doors and jumps surprisingly high—something you should keep in mind in daily life. He also tolerates grooming without any fuss. Kalle gets along well with female dogs but, with male dogs, it depends on mutual compatibility. Still, we’d best envision him as either an only dog or alongside a calm, confident female dog. Outdoors, Kalle meets people friendly and openly. However, within his own home, he doesn’t like being pressured by strangers. On the leash, Kalle typically expresses his opinion in a terrier-like manner and enjoys barking at other dogs. He also reacts strongly and quickly to cars passing very close by. With consistent training, these issues can be effectively addressed. As a terrier bred for hunting, Kalle also has a strong prey drive. Therefore, we’re not placing him with cats or other small animals. Kalle needs a clearly structured daily routine. As long as his usual routine is maintained, he can easily spend two to three hours alone. But when changes or uncertainties arise, that’s when his biggest challenge shows up: Kalle suffers from severe separation anxiety. If his primary caregiver plans to leave the house without him, he panics and may snap or bite at the person in this situation to prevent them from leaving. This behavior isn’t driven by aggression—it stems from deep despair and fear—but it still needs to be taken seriously and requires experienced owners who are willing to patiently and consistently re-establish his ability to be alone. Additionally, Kalle displays resource guarding around food. At the vet, he’s not among the most relaxed patients, yet he wears his muzzle without any problems and is quite familiar with it. For Kalle, we’re looking for a quiet, preferably rural home with terrier-experienced people who don’t have children. We’re seeking individuals who can provide him with security, consistency, and a reliable daily routine, appropriately engage him without overwhelming him, and at the same time allow him the necessary periods of rest and calm. Kalle has already had at least four previous owners and has had to cope with several changes throughout his life. That’s precisely why we’re hoping for people who’ll accept him just as he is—with all his quirks and imperfections. People who are prepared to invest time, patience, and consistency in him and give him the security he so desperately needs. Anyone who takes on Kalle will gain an incredibly loyal, cuddly, and joyful companion who’d go through fire and water for his person. All that’s missing now is exactly what he’s never really had before: a home where he can finally feel truly settled and stay forever.

About Kalle Krawalle

What life with Kalle Krawalle looks like

Kalle Krawalle is a large adult dog waiting at Tierheim Darmstadt in Darmstadt.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kalle Krawalle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kalle Krawalle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Darmstadt handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kalle Krawalle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kalle Krawalle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Darmstadt will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kalle Krawalle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kalle Krawalle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Darmstadt early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kalle Krawalle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
