All dogs Kalle Print Published: February 8, 2026 Date of Birth: estimated February 2017 Gender: male Breed: Mix Shoulder height: approx. 68cm Weight: 36kg Kalle has only recently moved in with us, but we can already tell you a lot about this wonderful guy after such a short time. Kalle was discovered by our employee in Romania, and it can be said that it was love at first sight. Even in Romania, the male dog was very friendly and affectionate towards people. He lived there with two female dogs and always showed the best mood, which was truly infectious. A few months later, we were able to welcome Kalle to our animal shelter. Now he lives in our large dog group and shows himself to be very socially compatible. Kalle is about 9 years old and can already walk well on a leash. He has also attended dog training classes and has shown his best side here as well. Additionally, Kalle gets along well with children, meaning that in his new home, children are more than welcome. We advise anyone and every family who wants to have a dog move in with them to seek out professional dog training classes beforehand. We can only describe how we know them in the animal shelter environment. In a new home, many dogs develop differently, and it is highly recommended to have competent advice by their side immediately. Would you like to meet Kalle? Then please call for more information and/or to arrange a visit to the animal shelter. It would be convenient to call in the morning between 9:00 and 12:00 and then again between 14:00 and 16:00. Please understand if someone does not answer the phone immediately, as our office is not always occupied and the staff are usually busy with animal care. So, please don't give up and try several times.

About Kalle

What life with Kalle looks like

Kalle is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Alsfeld in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kalle, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kalle?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Alsfeld handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kalle on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kalle if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Alsfeld will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kalle already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kalle isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Alsfeld early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kalle and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
