Kanella, also known as Kaneeltje by her caregivers, was found abandoned in the village of Klima in Dorida, as unfortunately happens with many Greek hunting dogs in Greece. She was clearly not suitable for hunting, as all she wants to do is play and be petted. Some residents saw her and fed her for a while until they informed the municipality. On March 30, 2026, Kanella was picked up by the municipality. She walked happily with Giorgos, as if she had known him for years. Medical examinations revealed she tested positive for heartworm. Kanella was selected, along with five other dogs, Olive, Marley, Aleka, Eddie, and Sammie, to receive a full medical treatment by Dog Rescue Greece. Her treatment was completed in June 2026. After being spayed and vaccinated, she would be returned to the village where she was found. However, since DRG paid for her heartworm treatment, she was allowed to stay at the shelter. This turned out to be her luck. In August, the village was hit by a large fire. The fire broke out exactly at the spot where Kanella was found, and eventually, the shelter had to be evacuated. If Kanella had been returned to the village, it is questionable whether she could have been brought to safety in time. Kanella is a very friendly, gentle, and cheerful dog. She is social with both people and other dogs and gets along well with every dog. She is loved by everyone in the shelter. She has the nice habit of following Giorgos and Maria everywhere. She curiously walks with them to the different rooms of the shelter and loves to discover new places. Kanella is a sweet and easygoing dog who loves to play, receive attention, and be with people and other dogs. For Kanella, we are looking for a loving home where she can finally have her own family. Kanella, door haar verzorgers ook wel Kaneeltje genoemd, werd achtergelaten gevonden in het dorp Klima in Dorida, zoals helaas met veel Griekse jachthonden in Griekenland gebeurt. Ze was duidelijk niet geschikt voor de jacht, want het enige wat Kanella wil, is spelen en geaaid worden. Enkele inwoners zagen haar en gaven haar een tijdje eten, totdat zij de gemeente op de hoogte brachten. Op 30 maart 2026 werd Kanella door de gemeente opgehaald. Ze liep vrolijk met Giorgos mee, alsof ze hem al jaren kende. Bij haar medische onderzoeken bleek ze positief te zijn voor hartworm. Kanella werd samen met vijf andere honden, Olive, Marley, Aleka, Eddie en Sammie, geselecteerd om door Dog Rescue Greece een volledige medische behandeling te krijgen. Haar behandeling werd in juni 2026 afgerond. Nadat Kanella was gesteriliseerd en gevaccineerd, zou ze worden teruggebracht naar het dorp waar ze was gevonden. Omdat DRG haar hartwormbehandeling betaalde, mocht ze echter in de shelter blijven. Dat bleek achteraf haar geluk te zijn. In augustus werd het dorp getroffen door een grote brand. Uitgerekend op de plek waar Kanella was gevonden, brak de brand uit en uiteindelijk moest ook de shelter worden geëvacueerd. Als Kanella was teruggebracht naar het dorp, is het maar de vraag of ze op tijd in veiligheid had kunnen worden gebracht. Kanella is een ontzettend vriendelijke, zachtaardige en vrolijke hond. Ze is sociaal met zowel mensen als andere honden en kan met werkelijk iedere hond goed overweg. Ze wordt door iedereen in de shelter geliefd. Ze heeft de leuke gewoonte om Giorgos en Maria overal te volgen. Ze loopt nieuwsgierig met hen mee naar de verschillende ruimtes van de shelter en vindt het heerlijk om nieuwe plekken te ontdekken. Kanella is een lieve en makkelijke hond die graag speelt, aandacht krijgt en samen met mensen en andere honden is.
