For a larger view, click on the image. This Christmas, we had the great pleasure of welcoming Kara to our home 🎄🐾 – after having walked with her every weekend for over a year. Once the initial excitement settled, Kara proved to be an exceptionally pleasant guest: calm, relaxed, and without barking. She most enjoyed being part of everything – whether in the kitchen while cooking (you never know when something might "accidentally" fall 😄), at the table during meals or playtime, and of course, cuddling on the couch while reading or watching TV 🛋️❤️. Of course, she had her quirks, curiously sniffing through every nook and cranny and finding everything 👃🐕. However, after a brief discussion, she obediently gave back things she wasn't allowed to have. Her Christmas gift – a blue cloth worm 🎁🐛 – was "executed" with great dedication and perseverance. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our time together ✨. So, if you are looking for an athletic dog who is also a total cuddle bug at home, Kara is the perfect match 🐶💙. We hope that she will soon find a new forever home. I just read through the first description of Kara and I ask you to do the same, but only after reading this part of the description. Otherwise, you would miss out on a truly wonderful dog and her remarkable development. During her first heat, we unfortunately had to spay Kara due to a uterine infection. However, she recovered well from the surgery. Kara has developed very well since then. She walks nicely on a leash, is social with other dogs, and is a great companion in everyday life.

About Kara

What life with Kara looks like

Kara is a large young adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Weil am Rhein e.V. in Weil am Rhein.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kara, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kara?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Weil am Rhein e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kara on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kara if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Weil am Rhein e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kara already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kara isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Weil am Rhein e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kara and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
