Adopt Karat

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 5 years

Disabled does not mean worse! Of course not! Meet Karat. A dog was brought by people who found him injured on the street and unfortunately did not give him veterinary care. Karat lived with them for a month, then ended up in an animal shelter. He is a very young, nice, and lively dog! He loves to be the center of attention and quickly becomes attached to his caregivers and dog friends. Karat has a very strong spinal curvature (he's S-shaped). It is unknown whether it is a developmental defect or a result of abuse. He does not always control how he goes, but he does not need help with that. Every day he gets joint supplements, which allow him to even run on his own. Unfortunately, he has trouble on slippery floors, so we help him by putting him in a cart. Is there someone in the world who will love our Karat? He's a very nice bachelor!

Czy niepełnosprawny = gorszy? Oczywiście, że nie! Poznajcie Karata. To przesympatyczny kawaler!

About Karat

What life with Karat looks like

Karat is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Starogardzie Gdańskim in Poland.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇵🇱Adopting from Poland

Polish shelters maintain established transport routes to Germany, Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. Animals leave sterilized and chipped. Adoption fees are typically lower than in Western Europe (often €50–€150) but adopters cover transport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karat, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karat?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Starogardzie Gdańskim handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karat on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karat if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Starogardzie Gdańskim will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karat already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karat isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with OTOZ Animals — Schronisko w Starogardzie Gdańskim early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karat and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (PL). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
