Karitász

Mixed Breed · Female · Senior · 10 years

A dog's family moved away, and they left their dog behind. Since then, the dog has been spending its everyday life on the street in front of the gate, alone and lonely, faithfully waiting for its owners, who never came back. Due to rumors circulating in the neighborhood, that the dog is wild and dangerous, no one dared approach it, so for a while they just watched it from a distance as it quietly waited. Then events took an unexpected turn, the dog walked into the porch of a house, where the residents made it feel safe. They greeted it with food and fresh water, at which point it turned out that it was a gentle, kind creature, with no connection to the rumors spread about it. Together with one of the residents, it was successfully lured into a protected, safe place. They fed it, gave it water, took care of it, and slowly began to recover from the physical and emotional trials caused by loneliness and abandonment. After that, they asked for help in placing. The main character of this sad story is Karitász, a large, very gentle mixed breed girl born in 2016. After being taken in, she had to be spayed immediately due to a purulent uterine infection, and to make matters worse, she tested positive for heartworm. We will not give up, she will recover, and we are looking for a new family where she can live as a family member for the rest of her life and never be left alone again. She really deserves for her life to finally take a good turn. Karitász is vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, continuing heartworm treatment, and is adoptable as a family member.

About Karitász

What life with Karitász looks like

Karitász is a small senior mixed breed dog waiting at Noé Állatotthon in Budapest.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

Note from the shelter: Heartworm treatment in progress, previously had pyometra surgery

🇭🇺Adopting from Hungary

Hungarian shelters operate at high capacity given the country's stray population. Animals leave sterilized, chipped, and with a passport. Many shelters coordinate transport to Germany, Austria, and the Nordics.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karitász, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karitász?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Noé Állatotthon handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karitász on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karitász if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Noé Állatotthon will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karitász already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karitász isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Noé Állatotthon early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karitász and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (HU). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
