Karl

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Karl is in quarantine. Character & nature: Curious whirlwind with its own head Karl is a terrier through and through: multi-faceted, agile, and always on the lookout for the next adventure. He gets excited about everything and follows new temptations with great passion. Towards his trusted people, he shows himself cooperative, friendly, and very clingy. Even towards strangers, he approaches openly and friendly – Karl loves contact and clearly gains energy from it. Typical of a young pup, he stubbornly tests boundaries. He is a “sports cannon” who likes to be everywhere. However, when faced with overload of stimuli, he needs help to find his calm again. Challenges: Impulsiveness and a need for control often turn Karl’s liveliness into restlessness. He is impulsive, easily distracted, and tends to engage in “unreasonable” behavior when his enthusiasm gets the better of him. Despite his adventurous spirit, he paradoxically needs stable comfort zones: deviations from familiar routines stress him, as he cannot handle frustration well and then tends to act out. Additionally, Karl has a certain sense of duty, which often manifests as controlling behavior. In contact with fellow animals, he is conflict-prone and sticks to his position. He immediately notices negative intentions of other dogs, sets clear boundaries, and forgives impolite behavior only slowly. Due to his close bond with humans, it is very difficult for him to be alone. Specials: A small fighter with a history Karl currently lives on a foster home with children, cats, and other dogs, but shows a strong prey drive. We are looking for people who love Karl’s terrier character and can guide him through daily life with foresight, sovereignty, and a lot of humor. Karl is a loyal companion for active people who are looking for a characterful dog and are ready to grow together with him. If you are interested in one of our animals, please send us an email with the fully completed interest application form or contact us via our contact form. Please provide a callback number. Do not come without an appointment!. This is a young, adolescent dog.

About Karl

What life with Karl looks like

Karl is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Oelzschau in Oelzschau.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karl, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karl?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Oelzschau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karl on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karl if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Oelzschau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karl already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karl isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Oelzschau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karl and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
