Karotte

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Senior · 9 years

Hello, my name is Karotte and I am a 15-year-old, neutered Rough Hair Dachshund lady with a very big heart. Since April 23rd, I have been living at our shelter, as my former owner could no longer take care of me due to age-related reasons. I am a very loving, clingy, and cuddly little senior who simply adores being close to people. My favorite thing is snuggling up close to my favorite people and just being with them. For my age, I am still quite fit health-wise. Only my excess weight makes walking a bit harder for me at the moment. Together with my caregivers, I am working hard on a diet and many small, joint-friendly walks to improve. During my time at the animal shelter, I have already gained quite a bit of mobility! Although it is difficult for me, I still love being out and about, within the limits of small, steady walks. My rounds are now a bit more relaxed, but my joy in them is just as great as it was before. For my new home, I wish for a calm, loving person who would still share many beautiful moments with me, such as cozy walks, lots of cuddles, and a warm spot to feel comfortable. It would also be important that my diet continues to be lovingly supported so that I can feel even better.

About Karotte

What life with Karotte looks like

Karotte is a large senior mixed breed dog waiting at Tierheim Hassberge in Germany.

Senior dogs settle in faster than younger ones. They want a soft bed, predictable meals, and short, sniff-heavy walks rather than runs. Many senior rescues bond deeply within weeks because they understand exactly how good a stable home is. Expect occasional vet visits for joint or dental care.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Karotte, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Karotte?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Hassberge handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Karotte on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Karotte if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Hassberge will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Karotte already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Karotte isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Hassberge early rather than rehoming privately; they know Karotte and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
