Adopt Kathi

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 4 years

💛 Kathi – When you win her heart, you get pure gold in return. When our animal rescuer first saw Kathi, time stood still for a moment. Amidst all the bleak kennels at the city animal shelter (gray, loud, hopeless), sat a female dog who was quieter than the rest. Not because she had given up, but because she had never had the chance to truly experience life. Kathi came from a small cage of about 1 square meter, where she was not allowed to walk, learn, or live. Dog language? Completely foreign to her. Friends? Never had any. Closeness? Unknown. Today, Kathi lives in our shelter and is blossoming. With the help of her canine friends Irina and Lucky, she has learned the most important things: trust, self-confidence, and that it's okay to stand up for herself. She is beginning to understand the world, and with each week, her eyes shine a little brighter. Kathi is cautious around people – who could blame her? But do you know what she loves? Food. And through her stomach, one can quickly find their way to her heart. Then she warms up, allows closeness, and shows her playful, joyful self. She wants to please. She wants to belong. She wants to finally feel at home. For Kathi, we wish for a home with people who don't expect everything right away. People who don't rush, but invite. People who have patience and understanding. A fenced garden would be a dream. A place where she feels safe, where she can sniff, snooze, and just be. Kathi is not a female dog "for on the side." But she is one who enriches life when given the chance and when her heart is won. Then, you get not only her love but also a new family member who shows every day how valuable trust is. 🧡 Are you Kathi's people? Then reach out – she waits patiently and full of hope!

Futter.

About Kathi

What life with Kathi looks like

Kathi is a adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierfreunde Griechenland e.V. in Recklinghausen.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kathi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kathi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierfreunde Griechenland e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kathi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kathi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierfreunde Griechenland e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kathi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kathi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierfreunde Griechenland e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kathi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
