Katinka

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 4 years

Katinka was born around October 2022 in a garden. There was a colony of cats there that was fed by a man and was growing rapidly. An neutering campaign in April 2023 put a stop to this. Katinka's past was quite dramatic, at least for such a small cat. You can read the full story here: Katinka. Katinka came to her current foster home in August 2023. She has thawed out very slowly, and she now moves freely around her room even when a person is present. Unfortunately, her range is limited to that one room. She could use the whole apartment and would certainly like to, but a tomcat in the foster home keeps driving her back. Since she is not very brave, she has resigned herself to her fate and stays in her room. She is, however, completely sociable with other cats and even tries to cuddle with this tomcat, but he doesn't allow it. With her Poldi, on the other hand, she is very close friends. Poldi is about 1.5 years old and initially lived in the room with her. For months now, however, Poldi has been using the whole apartment, though he also keeps coming back to her room and often likes to stay there for quite a while. She loves it when her favorite person comes and brings her something tasty. Then she comes running and takes, for example, cooked ham straight from the hand. She also likes to visit him at his desk and see what he is doing. However, she does not let herself be touched. Otherwise, she has by now developed into a completely normal, curious cat. We are looking for a understanding, patient home for Katinka with calm people who have experience with cats that are not entirely easy. It is ideal if there is already a very nice, sociable cat in the household; Katinka could take her cues from that cat. She is by no means a single cat. She needs feline company. She would most of all like to move in with Poldi, of course.

About Katinka

What life with Katinka looks like

Katinka is an adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. in Germany.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Katinka, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Katinka?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Katinka on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Katinka if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Katinka already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Katinka isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Leise-Pfoten e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Katinka and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
