Katzenschutz

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

Now 25 out of 27 communities (*) in the Neckar-Odenwald district have issued a Katzenschutzverordnung. What does a Katzenschutzverordnung mean? Breeders and owners must spay and microchip their free-roaming cats and register them in a German pet registry like Tasso. Many cats live without human care. They suffer from malnutrition, extreme weather conditions, are exposed to numerous dangers, and are often affected by parasites, injuries, and illnesses. Many baby cats (kittens) are born already sick. The animal welfare association and volunteer animal welfare workers* have been spaying stray cats for years, yet their numbers continue to grow. Due to uncontrolled breeding, more animal suffering occurs. The main cause is unspayed free-roaming cats that have an owner and thus a home. Why is spaying important? Responsible cat ownership includes more than food and water. Spaying offers numerous benefits for both animal and human. Prevention of unwanted litters: Female cats become sexually mature as early as four months. An early pregnancy poses significant risks, especially for the mother. Unwanted litters also burden our already overcrowded animal shelter. Health protection: The risk of infection diseases through mating decreases. Female cats have a lower risk of tumors in their ovaries and mammary glands as well as pyometra. Lower risk of injury: Spayed animals have fewer territorial disputes and are less likely to roam for days or weeks. Tomcats, in particular, suffer fewer injuries. More comfortable living conditions: Stinky territorial markings in the home and garden are mostly eliminated. Reduction of contagious diseases: Cats without human care often give birth to their litters in secret. These cats often suffer from diseases and parasites that can also be transmitted to pet cats. If litters are born, they often arrive already infected. With the issuance of a Katzenschutzverordnung, cat owners with free-roaming cats are required to spay their cats to protect other cats, especially those without owners. At the same time, the animal welfare association and its volunteer staff have the necessary legal authority to spay and microchip found or picked-up cats. The currently overabundant cat population should be reduced in the long term, the overcrowded animal shelter relieved, and further animal suffering prevented. What can you do now? Please report free-roaming animals to the respective community and the animal welfare association Mosbach and Environs e.V. Support our action by – in consultation with us – setting and monitoring live traps – taking transport rides to the vet – contributing to the costs of spay surgeries with your donation – informing friends and neighbors about the necessity of spaying indoor-outdoor cats in the communities (*) in our jurisdiction that have issued a Katzenschutzverordnung: As of: 25.10.2025 (The list is continuously updated) Adelsheim, Aglasterhausen, Billigheim, Binau, Buchen, Eberbach, Elztal, Hardheim, Hassmersheim, Höpfingen, Limbach (without spay requirement for owned cats), Mosbach, Mudau, Neckargerach, Neckarzimmern, Neunkirchen, Obrigheim, Osterburken, Ravenstein, Rosenberg, Schefflenz, Schwarzach, Seckach, Waldbrunn, Walldürn, Zwingenberg.

DE·Show original

Was bedeutet eine Katzenschutzverordnung? Was können Sie jetzt tun?

About Katzenschutz

What life with Katzenschutz looks like

Katzenschutz is a medium-sized young adult mixed breed cat waiting at Tierheim Dallau in Elztal.

An adult cat usually shows their personality within a week. Give them a quiet room with everything they need (food, water, litter, hiding spot) and let them choose when to explore. Don't force interaction — every cat decides for themselves when a new home counts as home.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Katzenschutz, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Katzenschutz?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierheim Dallau handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Katzenschutz on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Katzenschutz if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierheim Dallau will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Katzenschutz already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most cats on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Katzenschutz isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierheim Dallau early rather than rehoming privately; they know Katzenschutz and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
