Kelan

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

Description Although he is a young dog, life hasn't been kind to him, and his stay in the kennel enclosure isn't managed well either. In addition to the stress of living where he does, he is a dog afraid of loud noises, sudden movements, and most of all, people due to his bad experience. With the help of all the professionals and volunteers, he is gradually advancing, needing the trust and security that he lost with his experience. Therefore, we continue with a therapy in which, by approaching him daily to greet him and respecting his space, he is allowed to discover that there are wonderful people who are willing to help him. Kellan, as soon as he gains confidence, loves being petted, going for walks, and being accompanied in the kennel enclosure. His walks usually occur during times when there are few people around, and he is comfortable walking in his zone of comfort. He enjoys riding in the car. He loves interacting with other dogs, playing, and communicates very well with them. Kellan needs a family that gives him his trust, RESPECTS him, and offers time in his learning process. It would also be important for the family to live in a rural environment where the noise and hustle and bustle of people are not present in their daily life.

About Kelan

What life with Kelan looks like

Kelan is a medium-sized adult mixed breed dog waiting at Rivanimal (Rivas-Vaciamadrid) in Rivas-Vaciamadrid.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇪🇸Adopting from Spain

Spanish protectoras generally include sterilization, all vaccinations, microchip ID, and EU pet passport in the adoption fee (typically €250–€400 for a dog, €100–€180 for a cat). Many maintain partnerships with rescue transport providers across the EU.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kelan, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kelan?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Rivanimal (Rivas-Vaciamadrid) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kelan on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kelan if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Rivanimal (Rivas-Vaciamadrid) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kelan already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kelan isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Rivanimal (Rivas-Vaciamadrid) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kelan and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (ES). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
