Adopt Kenzo

American Staffordshire Terrier · Male · Adult · 5 years

Kenzo is today the oldest resident at the shelter. He arrived at our shelter on March 17, 2025, and has now been waiting for a family to finally open their heart and home to him for 419 days. 419 days behind bars. 419 days watching dogs leave before him. 419 days of hoping, never really understanding why no one stops to take him. In addition to over a year at the shelter, Kenzo has been walked 216 times by our volunteers. 216 walks during which we learned to discover a dog who is much more sensitive and affectionate than he appears at first glance. After a work accident, his owner was unfortunately no longer able to take care of him, and Kenzo ended up at the shelter. Throughout his life, he has lived outside, in a yard with access to a cellar. To pass the time, he developed some bad habits: cushions, pieces of wood or objects left in the garden can quickly become his favorite activities. Curious and resourceful, Kenzo is also an excellent mouser, always ready to clean up the garden. At the shelter, he may seem nervous or excited when first met. However, once he goes for a walk, he reveals himself to be much calmer and more pleasant, walking calmly without almost pulling on the leash. Behind his energy lies a dog who lacks references and who will need patience, stability and kindness to finally settle down. Unfortunately, cats are not compatible with him, so he will need a home without felines. Regarding his interactions with other dogs, we do not know them yet. If you already have a dog at home, a meeting at the shelter will be mandatory in order to see if there is a connection between them. What Kenzo is looking for today is not perfection. Simply a family willing to give him a chance, to understand his past and to finally offer him the life he deserves. Because no dog should spend so much time at the shelter. And because after 419 days of waiting, Kenzo deserves more than a kennel; he deserves a home.

About Kenzo

What life with Kenzo looks like

Kenzo is a adult american staffordshire terrier dog waiting at SRPA Liege in Srpa Liege.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇧🇪Adopting from Belgium

Belgian shelters operate under regional law (Flanders, Wallonia, Brussels each have their own rules). All adoptions include the Eurochip, vaccinations, and a stewardship contract. Several Flemish shelters partner with Dutch and German rescue networks.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kenzo, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kenzo?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. SRPA Liege handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kenzo on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kenzo if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — SRPA Liege will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kenzo already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kenzo isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with SRPA Liege early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kenzo and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (FR). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
