Adopt Kim

Mixed Breed · Male · Young · 1 year

🐾 🍀 Cautious. Clever. Wonderful 💚🐾 🐕 Kim recently arrived at our shelter from a Romanian animal shelter. Of all the dogs who arrived together, he was the most timid around people. Dogs like him need a bit more time, experience, and calm, clear guidance—and that’s exactly what Kim is receiving with us. He’s being intensively supported and has already made great progress in a short time. He now tolerates collar and leash well, allows touching, and is increasingly accepting closeness. Even though none of this is his favorite activity yet, he’s developing really well. Kim doesn’t have a “difficult” core temperament; rather, he’s fundamentally a fairly balanced dog who simply had to learn to trust people. He’s well socialized with other dogs, so having a confident second dog in his new home would certainly be a big help. He could look to a suitable canine companion for orientation and gain extra confidence. We’re looking for calm, adult humans who understand that Kim isn’t out to please in a polished way but is, quite understandably, a bit headstrong. He needs a home that continues to support him lovingly, patiently, and consistently—without underestimating or overly coddling him out of pity. Anyone who gives him this chance will very likely end up with a truly wonderful little guy by their side. We believe that with continued stability and good guidance, Kim can also learn to be left alone for a few hours at a time soon. If you’d like to meet Kim, please feel free to contact us at the Gelnhausen animal shelter. 🐾 PROFILE At the animal shelter since: 26.02.26 Date of birth: 18.10.2025 Breed: mixed breed, short-legged (beige-gray with white markings, short tail) Sex: male Origin: Tierhilfe Hoffnung Romania Reason for surrender: Animal welfare rescue Compatibility with cats/small animals: must be tested With children? 🐾 🍀 Vorsichtig. Klug.

About Kim

What life with Kim looks like

Kim is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) in Germany.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kim, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kim?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kim on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kim if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kim already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kim isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutz Kinzig-Main e.V. (Tierheim Gelnhausen) early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kim and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
