Kimi

Female · Adult · 8 years

Kimi is searching for a home with love, humor, and a bit of nerve Kimi came to us from an animal shelter because her previous owner had to go to the hospital, and no one else could take care of her. The transition has obviously taken a significant toll on the female dog. When she arrived, she not only weighed a few extra kilos but also brought a healthy dose of insecurity. We are already successfully working on her figure—those pounds are slowly melting away. However, her nervousness still accompanies her through everyday life. The hustle and bustle at the animal shelter particularly affects her, and she is not shy about sharing her feelings loudly. Kimi is a very attentive and reactive female dog who comments on many situations with excitement and insecurity. Anyone considering her should bring a certain level of acoustic resilience and not be rattled by occasional barking. During walks, Kimi generally shows good leadability. She walks calmly on the leash but may react excitedly and bark depending on the situation, especially if something seems unfamiliar or suspicious. From our perspective, this is mainly due to insecurity and not aggressive behavior. With clear guidance, a bit of patience, and a reliable framework, we see good chances that Kimi will gain more security over time. In interactions with other dogs, she currently shows some insecurity, occasional cheekiness, and at times can be a bit grumpy. We therefore do not want to categorically label her as incompatible. She is currently—like all our dogs—undergoing a muzzle training program. We will be able to assess her social skills more closely in the future. Potential owners with an existing dog can of course arrange an individual compatibility test with her. Whether Kimi can live with cats or children is still uncertain at this point. Corresponding tests are possible with serious interest. We also currently do not have reliable information about her indoor cleanliness or her ability to be left alone. Kimi is looking for people who will meet her with understanding, patience, and loving consistency. People who see beyond her excited demeanor and give her the security she currently misses. Those who are willing to give her this chance will receive a female dog who still has much to learn but will certainly give a lot in return.

DE·Show original

About Kimi

What life with Kimi looks like

Kimi is a adult dog waiting at Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. Two reasonable walks a day plus play time is usually enough. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kimi, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kimi?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kimi on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kimi if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kimi already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kimi isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein Düren und Umgebung early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kimi and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
