Adopt King

Mixed Breed · Male · Adult · 6 years

King originally comes from Romania and spent most of his life in an animal shelter. He was brought to Animal Life after being hit by a car, which injured his right front leg. Following surgery, he stayed at a transit station until he was discovered by his current owner and was able to travel to Germany a year ago. There, his front leg underwent extensive surgery, and with the help of an orthosis, he can now move around quite well. Unfortunately, due to personal changes in his owner's life, King sadly cannot stay much longer, and we have been asked to find a new home for him… King is healthy apart from his right front leg disability. Because he underwent months of treatment that was certainly painful, he needs to wear a muzzle during orthosis and bandage changes, but he tolerates this very well. He loves his people, is very attached to them, and also protects them, which naturally stems from his livestock guardian dog genes. He is very low-maintenance; as long as he has a farm or a large yard like he does now, he is completely content, as he then has something to watch over. He simply enjoys showing strangers that he is the "King." He loves getting attention and plays incredibly well with his people. If they don't have time, he fetches his toys, happily throws them in the air, and catches them again. He is house-trained, low-maintenance, well-behaved, and cuddly. He can be visited and met at any time at his current home in Weingarten. We are looking for a dog-experienced, loving home for King, with people who have big hearts and are comfortable handling a livestock guardian mix and his disability. Ideally, he would have a large, fenced property attached to the house where he can simply enjoy his life.

About King

What life with King looks like

King is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Pfotenglück Bayern in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting King, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about King?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Pfotenglück Bayern handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw King on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt King if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Pfotenglück Bayern will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is King already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if King isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Pfotenglück Bayern early rather than rehoming privately; they know King and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
