Kira

Mixed Breed · Female · Adult · 5 years

Kira (born 01/2021), originally known as Kiari, is a female dog about 55 cm tall who has shown herself to be remarkably gentle and sociable in her foster home. She lives there with many dogs and gets along equally well with female and male dogs alike. She is now even beginning to invite play and increasingly seeks out closeness to her foster mom. On the leash she walks calmly and looks to her person for guidance, and in the house she is unobtrusive and pleasant. For Kira, we wish for people who have understanding for a shy dog and who will give her the time she needs to build trust. An already resident dog would be ideal for her, as she can take good cues from confident fellow dogs. A home in the countryside with a garden would be a great wish for Kira – a quiet, safe place where she is allowed to settle in, and which would be a dream for any dog. Kira looks forward to meeting people who, with patience, calm, and loving guidance, will help her find her way to a stable and happy life. Kira is neutered and will be vaccinated, microchipped, and placed with a protection contract after a positive pre-screening. A safety harness (3 straps) is required when collecting the dog. Such a harness can be purchased for only 25 €.

Kira (geb.

About Kira

What life with Kira looks like

Kira is a large adult mixed breed dog waiting at Vierbeiner in Not e.V. in Germany.

An adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Dogs and cats typically leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with an EU pet passport.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Vierbeiner in Not e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Vierbeiner in Not e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Transport is usually a separate cost, so ask for the exact figure before you commit.
Is Kira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Vierbeiner in Not e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
