Adopt Kira

Mixed Breed · Female · Young · 3 years

Approx. 3 years old (born approx. 01.04.2023), 62 cm, 28 kg, female, neutered. Leishmaniasis test negative; will be tested again on 30.01.2026 before travel arrangements are finalized. Still at the animal shelter in Spain. Kira is a true cuddle monster—a female dog who loves people with all her heart. She is incredibly cuddly, actively seeks closeness, and thoroughly enjoys every petting session. At the same time, she’s playful and full of energy—playtime can sometimes get a bit boisterous, as Kira expresses her zest for life with plenty of spirit. She especially loves playing with her friend Rex, a German Shepherd, with whom she arrived at our partner shelter. Outside the shelter too, Kira shows her pleasant side: during walks in varied terrain, she already walks quite well and curiously explores her surroundings. Unfortunately, Kira’s past was anything but stable. She was found near the shelter together with Rex. Both were microchipped, but registered to different people. According to legal requirements, Kira had to be taken first to the Perrera, where her owner was located. However, the owner stated she couldn’t keep Kira, explaining that the female dog had been passed from hand to hand for quite some time. Fortunately, she officially relinquished ownership of Kira, allowing her to return to our partner shelter, where she now hopes for a permanent home. We’re looking for an active home for Kira with people who enjoy being outdoors and love movement and shared adventures. Long walks and mental stimulation are right up her alley. Due to her boisterous play style, we don’t see her in a household with small children. Anyone who gives Kira a loving and stable home will gain a loyal, joyful companion with a huge heart. 💛 Videos March – May 26:

About Kira

What life with Kira looks like

Kira is a large young adult mixed breed dog waiting at home4dogs in Home4dogs.

An young adult dog fits most household rhythms once the first couple of weeks of adjustment pass. A larger dog like this one needs daily off-leash time when possible — a fenced yard or regular access to safe walking trails. Plan a "decompression fortnight" — quiet routine, no visitors, no off-leash adventures — to let them settle.

🇨🇭Adopting from Switzerland

Swiss shelters require a home visit (Platzkontrolle) and proof of suitable accommodation. Cantons each have their own additional dog-keeping requirements (e.g. SKN training in some areas). Animals leave sterilized and chipped.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. home4dogs handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — home4dogs will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with home4dogs early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
