Kira

Mixed Breed · Unknown · Puppy · 5 months

Our little Kira is a wonderful German Shepherd mix, with great potential to one day become a real star on the dog training field. Her genes combine a Belgian and a Canadian (or Swiss) – so Kira is both a future super athlete and a highly intelligent mind. A dog like Kira belongs in an experienced family that wants to work with its new best friend, whether as a heroine in the search and rescue team or as a prima ballerina in dog dancing. But one thing is certain, Kira will not be a couch potato who amuses herself for hours a day in quiet play. Unfortunately, our 5-month-old (as of 09/2022) sunshine ended up with people who exactly looked for a cute puppy that hardly ever noticed in daily life and could be taken from the dog bed when one has time and desire. The animal welfare workers of Dolmen Animal became aware of Kira's fate through a volunteer and spoke with the owners of the wonderful girl, and these immediately realized that they had made a very hasty and unreasonable choice when they decided on a puppy of Kira's type. In order for Kira to start life properly, finally get her vaccinations, and then quickly travel to people who know how to explain the world successfully to a talent like her, she is currently not living in the animal shelter, but with a foster family. Kira is a balanced, calm and eager to learn nature. Like any puppy, she knows the perfect balance between playing, eating and sleeping (although her rest periods are gradually getting shorter and her future family must be aware that dogs like Kira also often have to learn to rest). If you are a German Shepherd fan and know how to handle a beauty like Kira, if you are already looking forward to seeing the envious glances of your neighbors and can hardly wait to shine with Kira in the dog training classes, then please contact us. We look forward to hearing from you.

About Kira

What life with Kira looks like

Kira is a small puppy/kitten mixed breed dog waiting at Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. in Gernsbach.

Puppies need routine, gentle socialization, and roughly two short outings a day for the first year. The first six months are the formative window — house-training, leash work, and quiet exposure to traffic, other dogs, and unfamiliar people happen now or not at all. Expect early-morning wake-ups and a few months of chewing.

🇩🇪Adopting from Germany

German rescues typically require an in-person home visit (Vorkontrolle) or detailed video home check before approving adoption. Animals leave the shelter sterilized, microchipped, and with a valid EU pet passport. Adoption fees usually fall between €250 and €450, covering veterinary preparation.

Frequently asked

Adopting Kira, answered.

How do I contact the shelter about Kira?
Use the phone, email, or website link in the sidebar of this page. Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. handles screening and the adoption contract directly — TailHarbor doesn't broker the conversation. When you reach out, mention you saw Kira on TailHarbor so they know which animal you're asking about.
Can I adopt Kira if I live in another country?
Yes, in most cases. Rescues across Europe routinely place animals abroad — Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. will tell you what they need (EU pet passport, rabies titer, transport coordination) and whether they handle transport themselves or refer you to a partner. Plan for an extra €100–€350 in transport costs depending on distance.
Is Kira already vetted, vaccinated, and chipped?
Most dogs on TailHarbor leave their shelter with sterilization, current vaccinations, microchip ID, and an EU pet passport included in the adoption fee. The vet status on this page reflects what the shelter has reported — ask them directly if you need details on specific vaccines, recent bloodwork, or chronic conditions.
What happens if Kira isn't the right fit?
Every reputable rescue accepts an animal back if the adoption genuinely doesn't work — that's part of the standard contract. Talk it through with Tierschutzverein ARCA e.V. early rather than rehoming privately; they know Kira and can place them more successfully than a second-hand listing can.
Why does the description sometimes read awkwardly?
TailHarbor translates shelter descriptions into English from the source language (DE). Translation is imperfect — names of streets, donors, and shelter-specific terms occasionally slip through unidiomatically. For the cleanest read, click the source link to see the shelter's original page.
